Moves the Bengals Should Make in Free Agency

Free Agency has officially started in the NFL, and despite the fact that the Bengals stated they aren’t going to make any big moves I think there definitely are a couple they should think about. These are the ones I think they should pull the trigger on:

WR Brandon Marshall

Oops. This one happened in the blink of an eye, and damn did the Bengals miss out. Marshall got released by the Jets then signed with the Giants for just 2yr/12mil. WHAT???? How did the Bengals not jump all over that??? What a steal for the Giants. Now Eli can miss 2 great receivers! I had to mention this since he went for dirt cheap, but let’s talk about something a little more realistic.

WR Alshon Jeffery

Hey I said ‘a little’ more realistic. If the Bengals wanted to show they are serious for next year then this could be a huge pickup. I think they could have a shot at it too. Take a 1 or 2 year flyer on the guy for 11 mil and truly see what Dalton can do. Assuming Eifert can stay healthy for 2 seconds and you are talking about a potentially insane passing offense. The biggest issue is the Bengals would have to let some guys walk, but the payoff could be worth it.

T Andrew Whitworth

Yea he was on the team last season, but the Bengals have to bring him back. Easily the best lineman for the Bengals, and a fan favorite, Whitworth brings talent and a veteran presence for the younger guys.

CB Malcom Butler

Now things are getting juicy! What happens when you ask the Pats for more money? They make you a restricted free agent! The Bengals desperately need a corner, and I think Butler could fit that bill perfectly. They may not even have to shell out much money depending on how much Belichik values him.

RB Jamaal Charles

Now here is a possibility. I definitely feel that the Bengals should take a shot on Charles. The Bengals have had a lot of inconsistency at running back over the past season or 2, and I think it’s high time to do something about it. Yes Charles has bones made of glass, but that’s why the Bengals offer him a safe 1 or 2 year deal, and if he gets injured again they can release him and finally let Gio start full time. The Bengals really need to move on from Hill.

DE Jabaal Sheard

I stated in my draft outlook piece that the Bengals need a pass rusher bad, and if they don’t plan on filling the need in the draft then here ya go. Sheard seems like he is poised for a breakout season, and I think he can be gotten cheap. The Pats are letting a lot of good players go so the Bengals need to jump on them.

Yes 6 players is weird, but I had to mention Brandon Marshall. That could end up being the biggest free agency signing this season. Still can’t believe he went for just 6 mil a year.
